You’ve had a bright idea for a new software program that is not available on the market. You’ve done your research and you know it would sell, you have the technological knowhow to get it ‘off the ground’ but you don’t have the capital to launch the product properly. This is where the real world can shatter your dreams; financing new, unproven ventures can be very difficult. A trip to your local bank without a comprehensive business plan will probably dash your dreams – banks prefer ‘safe’ businesses with proven results.
What you need is Venture Capital – funding for high potential, high risk start-ups. This kind of funding will want to own some equity in your company in exchange for the funds you need to launch your product. You should expect the investor to require a percentage of equity equal to the risk they are taking in your business.
