Hand crafted farm tables from salvaged antique materials add a little rustic charm to your home

Farm tables that have been beautifully handcrafted from reclaimed or salvaged antique materials make wonderful furniture pieces for your home. They create a rustic or semi-rustic look and feel that is ideal for any area, including the dining room, the kitchen or even the work shed. They are extremely versatile and functional, available in a range of different sizes, and have been detailed with various finishes, adding uniqueness and individuality to each piece.

Tables with the simplest designs are multipurpose and can be used in almost any space, but they also look great and can be placed in any room as an attractive centrepiece or feature. Even though these tables are newly constructed, their antiquity is found in the reclaimed materials used to make them. This is a great way to salvage beams from old buildings that would otherwise be sent to land fill.

It’s not just the standard farm table that is made from antique materials. There are also rustic trestle tables, benches and café or bistro tables; all would make an equally beautiful centrepiece for your home. These have also been hand crafted and fashioned from antique or reclaimed oak, white pine or other timbers, and are available in various sizes. A matte lacquer finish, for example, or a bleached look, certainly adds to their rustic appeal and individuality.

Farm table legs can be just as interesting and varied as the table tops themselves. The most common material used for the legs is wood, sourced from the same reclaimed beams as the rest of the table. Some of the most common leg shapes include tapered, Shaker style or turned spindle. The other option is metal, usually in the form of brushed steel legs, or a steel base. Steel legs look really great when matched with a black walnut table top with live edge, for example, whilst a more contemporary design involves a solid walnut table in combination with a steel base and lacquer finish.

An urban style table that is very interesting includes brushed copper clad legs that are reclaimed. In fact, most urban or industrial design tables are very striking and will make a definite impression wherever they are used, and are all the more appealing because of their salvaged machine base or industrial machine legs. There’s even a farm table with anchor chain legs and all antique parts – a very rustic piece full of character.
You may even be lucky enough to procure a very unique farm table, an original that is unlike any other. This could be in the form of a butcher block; a maple industrial table that even includes its original legs. There’s also a table that has been constructed from banyan trees that were felled during a hurricane. These, and any other one and only tables, are truly special pieces that are also very functional.

Reclaimed, antique materials make great rustic or semi-rustic farm tables that can be used in almost any setting, from a kitchen nook to living room or study area. Not only are they beautiful pieces that will bring warmth and a little rustic charm to your home, they are also a great investment – something that you would be proud to own for many years to come.
