Parrot food is much more specialized and varied than that of lesser bird species, by that we mean species such as finches and similar. Parrots, macaws, parakeets and other exotic bird species have a much more complex physiology and as such can be affected by their diet and captive habitat than other species. Indeed, if they do not get the right mix of nutrients and oils they need, their plumage will be the first noticeable sign that something is wrong. Another tell tale sign is their mood swings and the natural brightness of their eyes dims dramatically; if their behaviour changes from that of a lively bird to less animated and slowed, the chances are its diet is lacking in something.
Make sure your exotic bird receives a balanced diet and make sure it is from a regular and reliable source.
