Top Tips For Great Senior Pictures

Senior pictures are your way of letting the world know your style, your personality, your accomplishments and your sense of humor. Senior pictures capture a moment in life you’ll want to remember for the rest of your life, so make sure your photos turn out to be amazing. The most important thing to remember when having your senior portrait taken is to have fun. When you enjoy yourself it’ll show in the pictures and the results are sure to be stunning. Read on for a few other tips to help you on the way to the perfect picture.

Get your beauty sleep. Girls and guys, make an effort to get a good night’s sleep for at least two nights before your big photo shoot. Make up can cover some of the signs of lack of sleep but when you’re fresh and sparkling it shows clearly in the pictures. Don’t wear too much make up to hide any blemishes, it’s easier for the photographer to retouch these areas once the pictures have been taken. Bring your own make up for touch-ups throughout the shoot. When you’re applying make up, check it’s fully blended around the jaw line and that your neck is not whiter than your face. If you tan, don’t do it before the session as tan lines can ruin an otherwise great shot.

Allow yourself time before the shoot for a new hair style or color to grow in. Don’t take the scissors to your hair the day before the session. Better to pamper yourself the day before with a manicure and pedicure but be careful with facials and exfoliating treatments as reddened skin can be difficult to conceal the next day. Practice your smile and poses in front of the mirror so you’re more comfortable in front of the photographer.

Clothes are important for your shoot – clothes help you make an impact and let you express parts of your personality for the camera. Choose your outfits carefully for the best results. Bring something casual to demonstrate the everyday you, and then pick something more glamorous or formal. You can be photographed with your “identity wear” – your cheerleader’s outfit, your band uniform or your sports clothes. Keep it simple – your clothes should be in solid colors and without bold patterns that draw too much attention away from your face. Make sure your clothes are ironed and you have the accessories you need attached to each hangar in a zip-locked bag. Most of all, let your own sense of style and personality guide you. Don’t be swayed into dressing a certain way because you feel you should. Senior portraits are more effective when they show the real you.
