Can website design help in better ranking on search engines

Website design is a key to getting high ranking in searches. An experienced web designer is sure to take care of the parameters that result in a good ranking. This often requires simple tricks in the coding of the web page itself.

For example, title tag optimization is important for ranking for the keywords that the web developer is targeting. Title tags are the words or phrases that appear at the top left of your browser. A lot of in-experienced web designers do not enter one. When a page has a blank title tag, it displays a default title “Untitled Document”. There are several untitled documents on the web and the search engine cannot use this for filtering out results pertaining to the search performed.

The meta description is displayed at the top of the site along with the title. This is also displayed in the search results. Therefore, a descriptive Meta Description gives people an idea of know what is on your site.

Header tags define the headings for the web page content. Search engines refer to the headers in the page to get an idea of the contents of the page.

The web designer must also ensure that all images have ALT tags created for them. These provide a description of the image and are displayed to the website visitor in case the picture doesn’t load. These are also read by search engines.

One of the most critical tools available to web developers for getting good results for the keywords is the 'anchor text'. Anchor text is the words that point to a page. These display as links on the web page and clicking on these, one gets redirected to another page.
