Significance of umbilical cord blood

For many years, the significance of umbilical cord blood was unknown to many, thus the umbilical cord used to be cut and the placenta used to get discarded as the medical waste. However, now it’s not the case anymore, because the blood that’s left in the umbilical cord is very important and a rich resource of stem cells. Stem cells are mankind’s newest hope in its fight against the age old lethal diseases. These are homogeneous cells that ultimately become different blood cell types. These cells are extremely usable for treating fatal diseases like leukemia which is the cancer of blood. It’s one of the biggest evolutions in the world of science.
